Ahh Easter, the one time of year where chocolate can be considered one of your five-a-day and eggs don’t need boiling, frying or scrambling!
With the supermarket shelves already full of chocolate eggs, big and small, it’s time to think about what you’re going to do on Sunday April 4.
Whether you celebrate Easter for religious reasons or just for fun, this year more than ever, we at Mini Maniacs think it’s time to go big and have a proper chocolate-fuelled knees up. As per the government’s lockdown roadmap, fingers crossed we’ll be able to have outdoor gatherings of at least six people by March 29, so let’s get planning!
Lunch or Brunch?
Good food is a must. So, if you’re hosting a brunch or lunch, give your plate an Easter makeover. As a specialist children’s party planner, we know that kids love fun food – so adding some decorations or using different shapes is always a winner. Homemade biscuits can be shaped like sweet bunny rabbits, cupcakes can be decorated with mini-chocolate eggs and savoury foods can be styled to look like little chicks. We love these ideas from the blog ‘Kitchen Fun with My Three Sons’, and hope you get some inspiration too.
Whether you go for a traditional Sunday roast or keep it simple, add some cute chicks or carrot shaped goodness and your meal is guaranteed to be a hit. Also, don’t forget those hot cross buns – definitely an Easter fave.
Easter Table setting
As kids’ party planners, we love to decorate and need no excuse to make a table look as pretty as possible. So, we’ve put together some simple tips to give your Easter lunch a fabulous makeover.
Bunny ears are a must and also a simple way to give your table a fun Easter feel. All you need are some napkins and napkin rings. For a quick pair of ears, roll the napkin to create a long sausage shape, bring the two ends together and use a napkin ring to create the ears, just like the picture below. We added some painted eggs to really bring out the theme, but you can use flowers or pre-bought Easter decorations. To see how to create these cute napkin bunnies in more detail, click here.
Don’t be afraid to use brightly coloured napkins to make the table setting really pop.
For the centrepiece, we used a small strip of artificial grass, but any green material will do to create a spring-like feel. Brightly coloured flowers and foil-wrapped eggs add to this whimsical table display, as do out super sweet straw bunnies. As non-essential retail stores are not yet open, we’ve relied on decorations from your basic supermarket, garden centre or favourite online retailer.
If you want to stick to a traditional Easter colour palette, we suggest using different shades of yellows, greens and pinks to keep the style seasonal and pretty.
Activities for Kids
Keeping children entertained is never easy, but the promise of chocolate eggs and cute Easter-themed prizes is a surefire way to get your kids smiling and involved.
Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned Easter egg hunt? This will be super fun if you’re holding an outdoor Easter party as all you need are some small chocolate eggs and some pieces of cards to write out your clues.
Our top tip? Use coloured ribbons to tie your clues to the different hiding places, and don’t make the prizes too difficult to find.
Other fun outdoor Easter activities include: an egg and spoon race, planting seasonal flowers, painting eggs or making egg-shaped cookies which you can decorate together, creating fancy Easter bonnets or baskets.
It’s been a hard year, and hopefully Easter will mark a way out of all the lockdown restrictions and a way back into ‘normal’ life. At Mini Maniacs, we might not be able to host children’s parties yet, but we definitely still want everyone to enjoy their Easter Sunday and to make precious memories with their loved ones. So, whatever you do, add some bunny ears, a bit of chocolate and keep smiling!
